Ask a question →
What is a summary conviction offence?

Summary conviction offences are generally less serious criminal offences that are prosecuted in the Ontario Court of Justice. Licensed paralegals may represent clients only in those summary conviction matters authorized under Ontario law.

Can a paralegal represent me on a criminal charge?

Yes, but only for criminal matters that fall within a licensed paralegal's authorized scope of practice. If your matter falls outside our authorized scope, we will advise you accordingly and, where appropriate, recommend that you seek representation from a lawyer.

Will I receive a criminal record if I am convicted?

A conviction may result in a criminal record depending on the offence and the outcome of your case. During your consultation, we will explain the potential consequences and discuss available options.

Can my case be withdrawn?

Every case is different. Depending on the evidence, your background, and the circumstances of the offence, the Crown may agree to withdraw the charge, offer diversion, or resolve the matter without a trial. We will review your case and pursue all appropriate resolution options.

Should I plead guilty?

You should never plead guilty without first obtaining legal advice. We will review the evidence, explain the strengths and weaknesses of your case, and help you make an informed decision.

What should I do after being charged?

If you have been charged with a criminal offence, you should seek legal advice as soon as possible. Early legal representation can significantly affect the outcome of your case.
